The police break into an apartment where they find a dead couple who appear to have been murdered. Upstairs is another woman (Lina Romay), naked and unable to talk from shock. the woman is sent to a mental hospital for women where a doctor (Michael Maien) and his assistant (Nanda Van Bergen) try to make her speak and tell them where the diamonds the dead couple were smuggling are hidden. Oh yeah, there’s also a maniac dressed in black running through the hospital killing the women. This Franco outing got off to a pretty good start but things start to go downhill around the thirty-minute mark and for the most part everything that happens afterwards is pretty slow and dull. The film only runs 76-minutes but it feels much longer. Romay turns in a pretty good performance playing the silent character, which she is very good at doing in most films. The supporting cast is pretty good with Monica Swinn also having a small role. There’s some nice visuals in the film and the music score also manages to be quite good. The film takes place in a women’s hospital so you can expect several lesbian scenes including the highlight of the movie when five women make love to Romay when she first comes to the hospital.

She writes a letter to God, and a Knight rescues her, only to fall into the hands of the Inquisition, put on the rack, and condemned to death like Joan of Arc.

Jess Franco returns to the same ground as Eugenie…The Story of Her Journey Into Perversion and delivers a pretty good remake and certainly one of the best films I’ve seen from his Golden Era productions. A naive young woman is sexually preyed upon by a man and woman who plan on selling her to a bizarre couple who will sexually torture the girl. The only problem is that the couple, both the man and woman, begin to have feelings for the girl. We’ve seen Franco tackle the Eugenie theme countless times but it’s one element that he always nails on the head. There’s really not too much that happens in this film as Franco takes his sweet time with every single scene by extending them to their fullest. For the most part this works but there are a few scenes that become rather boring including a three-minute toe sucking scene. However, Franco always captures sexuality perfectly and that’s the case here. Franco’s also known for using the same cast members over and over but this film features all fresh faces, which made the film more interesting to watch for someone who is nearing one-hundred films viewed by the director. The director doesn’t pull any punches during the violent ending and manages to make it quite hard to watch even though there’s no graphic violence. The film has terrific cinematography and a great score that makes this one of the director’s better efforts, although newbies certainly shouldn’t start here.

Esther Moser, Kali Hansa and Pilar Coll star three girlfriends more or less promiscuous, with one of them being a real slut. They take up night work performing together in a lesbian sex performances in a night club. Among the guests there is a couple (female) who pay the more promiscuous gal, offering her to join them in a threesome. During this they give her a drug and she ends up as a hooker in al brothel somewhere in Asia. The same thing happens to the other two Girls in the night traffic.

Sexploitation at its sleaziest!
“Barbed Wire Dolls” has to be one of the sleaziest Women in Prison epics ever created.This is Franco’s first film for Swiss producer Erwin C.Dietrich and it offers tons of nudity and sleaze.A beautiful Maria(Lina Romay)is imprisoned in a penitentiary run by a cruel lesbian warden(Monica Swinn).She is accused of murdering her father(played by Jesus Franco himself)but the wardress actually did the deed.Once in prison,Maria is tortured by being tied nude to metal bed-frame which is hooked up to electrical current.”Barbed Wire Dolls” is as sleazy as they get.The film features incredible amount of sleaze including whippings,masturbation with a cigarette,lesbian sex scenes,rape and a close up of one of the inmate’s private parts being penetrated by a guard’s fingers.The acting is actually not bad and the film is never boring.So if you’re a fan of European exploitation give this dirty classic a look.9 out of 10.
